About the event
Located about seven miles up the Allegheny River from Pittsburgh, the borough of Aspinwall was incorporated in 1892, two years after the Aspinwall Land Company was formed and purchased 155 acres from Mrs. Annie Aspinwall. It subsequently expanded through the acquisition of additional land. In this predominantly residential borough, you will see the customary assortment of Victorian architectural styles, as well as a handsome Modernist church and an eccentric group of homes designed by local architect-planner Frederic Sauer. Although small, this borough has retained its Victorian charm through historic preservation and as a matter of civic pride. The tour will explore Aspinwall’s history through its architecture and the important role resident Frederick Sauer played in the town’s development.
